Years ago, when I worked in a warehouse, all of us would show up in the morning ready to work but not knowing what the day held. We had to wait until the boss arrived with the list he had already made the night before.
He always knew the plan. We just waited for it.
Because as adults, we are our own boss. No one is handing us a list in the morning. We either plan the day ahead of time, or we wake up guessing.
Marcus Aurelius reviewed his actions each night so he could enter the next day already aligned. A simple list does the same for us.
Seneca repeatedly warned against “the chaos of an unplanned life.” He said people waste more time through uncertainty than through actual difficulty.
So here is your simple task tonight: Write tomorrow’s to-do list before you go to bed.
Keep it short. Keep it clear. Put the top priority at the top. When you open your eyes tomorrow, you’ll already know where to go.
Marcus
