Practice restraint first by withholding assent.
Today’s practice is simple.
When something hits, don’t decide yet.
An impression will show up fast. A story. A judgment. An urge to react.
That part is automatic.
What isn’t automatic is whether you agree with it.
That moment is where Stoic practice actually lives.
STOIC LINE OF THE DAY
“Make it your study, then, to confront every harsh impression with the words, ‘You are but an impression, and not at all what you appear to be.’” – Epictetus, Enchiridion (1)
Nothing meaningful is lost by waiting. A lot is lost by agreeing too quickly.
STOIC PLAYBOOK
Today’s move is restraint, not reaction.
Notice the impression as it appears
Don’t argue with it
Don’t act on it yet
Simply withhold agreement
You don’t need to calm yourself perfectly. You don’t need the right answer immediately.
You just need a pause.
It’s short and meant to be used in real moments. Press play when emotion rises and you feel pulled into reaction.
WITHHOLD ASSENT”
Withhold Assent.
It’s short and meant to be used in real moments.
Press play when emotion rises and you feel pulled into reaction.
