Good day, Stoics.
Return to center.
One of the things I appreciate most about Stoicism is that it doesn’t expect us to be perfect.
It expects us to notice when we’ve drifted.
Maybe you’ve drifted into anger. Into fear. Distraction, self-pity, or worrying about things outside your control.
It happens.
The question isn’t, “How did I end up here?”
The question is, “How quickly can I return?”
Marcus Aurelius constantly reminded himself to come back to reason. Epictetus reminded his students to return to what’s within their control. The Stoics understood that the mind naturally wanders.
The practice was never not drifting.
The practice was returning.
So today, whenever you notice yourself getting pulled away from the person you’re trying to be…
Return to reason.
Return to the present moment.
Return to your values.
Return to your character.
You don’t have to restart.
You don’t have to wait until tomorrow.
You just have to return.
Stay steady.
