Good day, Stoics.

At first glance, self-respect and pride can look almost identical.

Both involve valuing yourself.

Both involve carrying yourself with confidence.

Both can even sound the same.

But underneath, they’re built on very different foundations.

Self-respect says:”

I know who I’m trying to become.

My values don’t change based on who’s watching.

I don’t need to prove my worth.

Pride says:”

I need to be right.

I need people to recognize me.

I need to protect my image.

One is rooted in character.

The other is rooted in ego.

That’s why pride is so easily wounded.

A single criticism can shake it.

A disagreement can threaten it.

An insult can consume it.

Self-respect doesn’t work that way.

It doesn’t depend on applause, agreement, or recognition.

The Stoics weren’t interested in building a stronger ego.

They were interested in building a stronger character.

Here’s today’s distinction:Ask yourself…

If no one ever noticed, approved, or praised what I was doing… would I still choose to do it?

Your answer says a lot about whether you’re being led by self-respect or pride.

Stay steady.
