Choose the right amount.

After courage and justice comes temperance.

Once you’re acting, and once you’re trying to act well, the next challenge is restraint.

Temperance isn’t denial. It isn’t punishment. It isn’t removing everything you enjoy.

It’s choosing the right amount.

This virtue governs appetite. Not just food, but distraction, spending, emotion, and impulse. Most problems don’t come from wanting something. They come from wanting too much, too often, without thinking.

That’s what today is about.

STOIC LINE OF THE DAY

“No man is free who is not master of himself.” – Epictetus, Discourses (4.1)

Temperance isn’t restriction for its own sake. It’s self-mastery, which is where real freedom starts.

STOIC PLAYBOOK

Practice temperance today by choosing measure on purpose.

Identify one area of excess Food, scrolling, spending, stimulation, or emotion.

Pause before the next impulse Don’t rush. Create a moment of choice.

Choose a smaller amount Or choose enough, and stop there.

Notice how it feels afterward Often, restraint steadies more than indulgence ever does.

If temperance is already a strength, protect it. If it feels weak, that’s fine. It grows through repetition, not force.

One measured choice today is enough.

I added a new guided Stoic Virtue Reset audio yesterday.

It walks you through each of the four virtues slowly and deliberately, helping you identify where you’re steady and where you want to refocus.

No hype. No motivation talk. Just a clear return to fundamentals.

Use it today, or come back to it anytime you feel off center.
