Good day, Stoics. 🫡
🚪 There’s a sentence you’ve been rehearsing and not saying.
It starts with “could you” or “would you mind” and then it dies in your throat.
So you do the thing alone, slower and worse, and you tell yourself that’s integrity.
It isn’t. It’s inventory.
You’re keeping a ledger where asking counts as debt.
Every request feels like it puts you one down, so you’d rather struggle than owe.
But look at who you admire.
They ask constantly. They ask early. They ask people who know more than they do.
That’s not a flaw they overcame. It’s most of how they got there.
The strong version of you asks sooner, not less.
Marcus Aurelius was the most powerful man alive and he wrote himself a note about this.
He compared it to a soldier on a wall who can’t climb it alone.
Nobody calls that soldier weak. He has a job to finish and two hands.
The refusal to ask isn’t humility, and it isn’t strength either.
It’s usually a story about how you’re supposed to look.
And the cost lands on the work, not on your pride.
The project takes three months instead of three weeks.
The mistake goes uncaught until it’s expensive.
The person who would have gladly helped never gets asked, and never knows you needed them.
That last one is worth sitting with.
You didn’t just cost yourself. You took something from them too.
📜 STOIC LINE OF THE DAY
“Don’t be ashamed to need help. You have a duty to fulfill just like a soldier on the wall of battle.”
💭 GOING DEEPER
The line lands harder when you remember who wrote it.
Marcus was emperor of Rome. There was no one above him to ask.
He was writing to himself, at night, in a camp, about a reflex he clearly had not beaten.
That’s the useful part. This isn’t advice from someone who found asking easy.
It’s a man reminding himself, again, that the mission outranks the image.
Notice he frames it as duty, not comfort. He isn’t saying asking will feel fine.
He’s saying the wall still has to be taken.
⚔️ TODAY’S PRACTICE
Think of one thing that has been stuck for over two weeks.
Name the one person who could unstick it in under an hour.
Send the ask today, plainly, with no apology attached to the front of it.
❓ QUESTION OF THE DAY
What am I doing alone that I’ve been too proud to hand over?
Hit reply and tell me.
Stay steady. ⚔️
