Good day, Stoics.
What do you think you’re owed?
A certain amount of respect?
An easier path because you’ve worked hard?
Gratitude from someone you helped?
A particular outcome because you did everything right?
A surprising amount of frustration begins with the thought:
After everything I’ve done, this shouldn’t be happening to me.
The Stoics were careful with that expectation.
Virtue isn’t a bargain we make with life.
We don’t act with courage, patience, honesty, or justice because the universe has promised to reward us afterward.
We do what’s right because it’s right.
So today, notice where disappointment has become entitlement.
Ask yourself:
Am I upset because something is genuinely wrong, or because reality failed to pay me what I thought I was owed?
There’s freedom in doing your part well without constantly keeping score.
Stay steady.
